A rare and finely carved set of the Four Evangelists, represented in their traditional full-sculptural symbolic forms. Executed in Germany around 1850, these remarkable carvings are exceptional examples of 19th-century ecclesiastical art, combining rich symbolism with outstanding craftsmanship.
Each figure is expertly hand-carved in wood and retains its original polychrome decoration. The predominantly gilt and silvered surfaces are beautifully complemented by striking iridescent, rainbow-colored wings, creating an extraordinary visual effect and enhancing the sculptures’ decorative appeal.
